The penultimate Thursday of the month and therefore the appointment with the ten new words found in the books I read returns. I repeat that they can also be words rarely used or perhaps forgotten. The books from which they are taken are Raimondo Mirabile, Futurist by Graziano Versace, The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin, Before Adam by Jack London and Virginia and the Monster Men by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Fopponi : found on page 247 of the novel Raimondo Mirabile, futurist by Graziano Versace.
It is missing from the dictionary, but I found online that it is used for emergency cemeteries, graves dug outside the city. Oxbow : Found on page 4 of the novel The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin. They are the bends of the river abandoned by the current and which form stagnant lakes. Amarrata : Found on page 23 of the novel The Special Data Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin. It means to moor. Fantolino : found on page 21 of the novel Before Adam by Jack London. Word used in literature and stands for child. Triptych : found on page 31 of the novel Before Adam by Jack London. It isn't in the dictionary, but in an English one it is reported as a Roman dialect verb for tremolare (and thank goodness I'm from Rome...). Gibigiana : found on page 31 of the novel Before Adam by Jack London.
It is a Lombard word and means a flash of light that is reflected by a shiny and transparent body. Barena : Found on page 117 of the novel The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin. It is the land that emerges from the lagoon during low tide. Scaramazza : found on page 118 of the novel The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin. She is a not perfect pearl. Buriana : found on page 69 of the novel Virginia and the Monster Men by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It is a small and intense storm. Argo : found on page 86 of the novel Virginia and the Monster Men by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It is a large Galliformes bird.
